How to Clean a Kitchen Sink
Your sink is an integral part of the kitchen. You’ll use it every day, and whether you’re just rinsing off plates or cleaning up after a big dinner, our sinks often get built up with grime and so on. With different types of kitchen sinks available, you need to know the best way to clean your particular kind of sink.
In this post, we’re going to be looking at how to clean your kitchen sink. Follow our tips to get a sparkling finish every time.
How Do You Clean a Stainless Steel Sink?
We’ll begin with the most common type of sink, a stainless steel one. A stainless steel sink is very easy to clean. This won’t be hard for you to clean whatsoever, there are some little hacks that are useful to know however.
If your stainless steel sink is overdue a clean, here’s the best way of cleaning it. Fill the sink with warm water and add a tablespoon of bleach, making sure you stir it around. Dip a sponge in the water and just give the tap a quick wipe. Let the water sit for 5 minutes or so and then pull the plug. Leave it to air dry.
Once dry, it should look good as new. If you notice any scratches on your stainless steel sink, look for stainless steel polishing creams as they’ll help you to remove cosmetic damage to the sink.
Make sure you don’t use any chlorine bleach products on a stainless steel sink. This will damage the protective layer which makes it stainless and you can end up doing irreparable damage to your sink.
How Do You Clean a Ceramic Sink?
Ceramic sinks can show signs of use in slightly different ways. Washing it with normal warm water and washing up liquid does the job most times. However, if you need a deep clean for your ceramic sink, then you’ll need to employ the use of a couple more ingredients.
Make a mixture of vinegar and lemon juice. Scrub the sink with this mixture, don;t be afraid to get stuck in. Rinse off the mixture with warm water and leave to dry.
Another option is biological washing powder. This is for ceramic sinks with deep discoloration. Leave warm water and biological washing powder overnight and then drain, wipe and rinse in the morning.
It’s very important that you use biological washing powder as this has ingredients that actively work to break down whatever it is that needs cleaning.
How Do You Clean a Composite Sink?
A composite sink is also very easy to clean, but like stainless steel and ceramic sinks there are slight differences that are helpful to know. If you have a composite sink, then the best thing to do is make sure you’re regularly giving it a wipe down.
For a deep clean then you need to make another mixture. This time, you need it to be equal parts water and vinegar. Then, wipe around the sink with this mixture. This should target limescale deposits in the sink. Make sure to rinse your sink thoroughly after this and leave to dry.
Staying on top of cleaning the sink is important and makes sure that everything is working smoothly, you don’t want large build ups of grime, limescale and so on. These can lead to costly repair and maintenance jobs in the future.
