Who are Fisher & Paykel?
Fisher & Paykel have been designing premium kitchen appliances since 1934 and currently sell products worldwide. The brand can be found in over 50 countries and their appliances are manufactured in New Zealand, China, Thailand, Mexico and Italy.
Fisher & Paykel made its beginnings in New Zealand when Olive Paykel asked her husband to import a refrigerator she had seen in the American Ladies Home Journal. The appliance proved to be popular and soon Olive’s son Maurice Paykel, and son-in-law Woolf Fisher began a fast-growing appliance importing business. After the New Zealand government banned imports of manufactured goods, Fisher & Paykel established a factory to assemble their own appliances.
Fisher & Paykel have continued to grow over the years. Cool refrigeration advancements such as the CoolDrawer™ and ActiveSmart™ refrigerator technology set them apart from other refrigerators.
In 2010, Fisher & Paykel underwent a major brand refresh, rethinking their focus as well as the look and culture of the company. They made a commitment to research, looking into how people use their kitchens based on their individual lifestyles. This led to their Social Kitchen design philosophy.
The Social Kitchen explores what people want from their kitchens, creating flexible appliances based on patterns of use. They aim to rebuild our relationship with our kitchens, making it more than just the room we make food in.
Since Haier group purchased Fisher & Paykel in 2012, their appliances have become some of the most sought after on the market. ActiveSmart™ is a refrigeration system that cleverly maintains temperature and humidity. It consists of a microprocessor, interior temperature sensors, independently controlled variable speed fans and multiple air ducts.
