Appliance City Charity Donations in 2020
It’s safe to say 2020 hasn’t been the year we were expecting it to be! Whilst we’ve been able to continue trading throughout the pandemic, a lot of other businesses haven’t been as lucky. We decided to pass on our gratitude in any way we could. Here’s what we decided to do!
Facebook Competitions
To spread some festive cheer we decided to run a Facebook competition; The 12 Day Festive Giveaway! We gave out 12 prizes in the run up to Christmas ranging from Laithwaite’s vouchers, to pan sets, coffee machines to vacuum cleaners! Throughout the 12 days we gave away small appliances and vouchers totalling over £2,200! We received lots of positive feedback on these giveaways. Thank you to so many of you for entering and taking part.
Christmas Jumper Day
On 11th December we all donned our favourite Christmas jumpers and donated to Save the Children. Christmas Jumper Day is a firm favourite tradition in the office. Not only a great way to raise money for a fantastic cause, but it also helps us to start feeling a little festive! You can visit our Just Giving page and our charity donations for Save the Children here.
Charity Donations
At Appliance City we always donate to at least one charity each year. This year charities needed supporting more than ever so we decided to donate to not just one, but three of them! We split £5000 between the three charities that are closest to our hearts, I think you will agree, these are very worthy causes!
The Royal British Legion
This British charity provides financial, social and emotional support to members and veterans of the British Armed Forces, as well as to their families and dependants. Originally founded in 1921, we have chosen to support this fantastic charity previously. You can find out more about the Royal British Legion and the work they do here.
Macmillan
Cancer has affected most of us at some point during our lives, whether it be a friend, a relative or even experienced it ourselves. Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the largest British charities and provides specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer. It also looks at the social, emotional and practical impact cancer can have, and campaigns for better cancer care. To find out more about this fantastic charity please click here.
Acrodysostosis Support and Research
The third and final charity is one that is very close to our hearts here at Appliance City. We chose this charity to support a member of our sales team, Alex Pykett. Alex’s little girl Frankie, has Acrodysostosis, an extremely rare genetic disease which can cause skeletal malformations and delayed growth amongst many other symptoms. Alex and his partner Kimberley have campaigned tirelessly to raise awareness and funds for the vital research that is needed to help Frankie and around 90 other children around the world. You can find out more about Acrodysostosis here.
It’s safe to say Frankie, aged 5, has captured the hearts of many people. Even a rather famous Oscar winning actress! National treasure and star of The Crown, Olivia Colman pledged her support to the charity. You can watch her heartfelt video in honour of the charity here.
Looking ahead to 2021
